Model digitals

Model digitals, also called polaroids, are plain, unretouched photographs showing a model’s real appearance. Taken without make-up, in fitted clothes and natural light, they usually include front, profile and full-length views. Unlike portfolio images, they avoid styling and deliberate posing.

Digitals let agencies assess a new face without requiring a professional shoot. They are enough for initial applications and first castings, while test shoots and a model book come later. Clear, current pictures also help signed models when clients or foreign agencies need an accurate view of their look right now.

Taking and using digitals

Take simple photos in daylight, without make-up, filters or retouching. Wear plain, fitted clothing so proportions are visible, and capture the face, profile and full body. A phone is enough for an agency application; professional photography is not required.

For a casting, bring accurate measurements and requested items, with images available on your phone. Never pay to attend a casting or open call. Under-18s participate with a parent’s knowledge.

Digitals, tests and portfolios

Digitals are not test shoots or portfolio pictures. A test lets a model practise expressions and posing with a photographer while creating selected portfolio images. A portfolio is a broader collection of professional work shown to clients.

Do not buy a portfolio before approaching an agency. Start with honest digitals, then let the agency identify missing images and suitable photographers. Replace digitals when your look changes, and add stronger work to the book later.
